One of my most favorite former students came to see me after school the other day. She's a senior now and just got into the college of her choice. We had this conversation:
Girl: I got in!
Me: I'm so proud of you!
Girl: Thank you! I'm going to be a [College Mascot] of 2017.
Me: Uh...2017?! Dear god. Do you know how old I'll be in 2017?
Girl:...
Me: 36.
Girl: OMG, that's almost 40!
Me, bursting out laughing: Thanks for reminding me.
Girl: I mean, it's not THAT old...
This conversation reminded me of this day.
It's always so fun to chat with former students who still think you're the best teacher in the world. It's always so funny too. Great job on this post.
