Saturday Special: Three Things, Vol. 10

1. Gayle Forman's Just One Day

People, listen, I loved this book, which I think is the result of two things.  #1: I've recently discovered that my favorite type of book is that which involves teens falling in love, with complications, in beautiful locations.  See: Anna and the French Kiss, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, Jellicoe Road.  Is it because I've never been a teen who fell in love in an exotic locale?  Maybe.  But whatever, they're the best.  #2: This book is basically Before Sunrise.  I love Ethan Hawke.  A lot.  I know he cheated on Uma Thurman, but whatever, I still love him.  Both of those things, along with the fact that the book is beautifully written and compelling, made me devour it in two sittings.

2. Texts from LBD (http://textsfromlbd.tumblr.com)

Kirsti, from Melbourne on my Mind, sent me this link at the beginning of the week, effectively ending my life.  Someone has created a bunch of texts between characters from The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, which are obviously non-cannon, yet still make me a little swoony.  Is it basically fan-fiction for something that is already fan-fiction?  Yes.  Do I care about that?  No.

3. TLC's "Four Weddings"

It's not secret that I hate weddings.  I don't get them.  I don't get spending so much money on one day.  Buy a car or a house.  Take a trip.  But don't waste money on a wedding.  The first time I went to visit K, she introduced me to the ridiculousness that is Four Weddings.  It's a reality show where four women attend each others weddings, then judge them, and pick whose was best.  The winner gets a fancypants honeymoon.  It's totally addicting, mostly because I judge all the weddings and how terrible most of them are.  If there's a marathon on, I'm likely to watch it.

  1. Oh man. We had an Australian version of Four Weddings for a while. It was AWFUL. And one of the weddings was had a guy dressed up as Gollum in the role of ring bearer. The other brides were both terrified and horrified. It was hilariously awful. See? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBwXl-fGjN8
