Hi, I'm M and I'm a 20-something 30-something English teacher at a top performing public high school in a huge city in a reasonably large state who, on a daily basis, hears at least 10 ridiculous things I can write down and amuse people with.
I love my job and, admittedly, I'm pretty good at it. I might complain from time to time, but the truth is I love teenagers. They're absolutely hilarious and ridiculous creatures. When I started teaching a little less than 10 years ago, I told my friends and family stories about what happened in my classroom and most of the time they decided I had to be making it all up. I think when the only experience with teenagers you have is on shows like "Gossip Girl" or "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" (which teenage boys are apparently obsessed with) or any other terrible teen show on tv right now, you don't have a real idea of what teenagers are like today. I think you'd be surprised by not only the ridiculous things they say, but also the smart, insightful and sometimes genius things they surprise even me with.
I lean left politically and I support the right for ALL of my students to get married someday to their respective spousal choice. I try not to get political, but there are times I talk about politics and equal rights, and I'm not going to apologize for either of those.

There is a varied cast here at TAR and it can get confusing. The two most common contributors are K, who teaches English in another state far away from me, and B, who used to work with me but now is a fancy administrator in another district. There's my group of coworkers: the other K, R, D, T, and L who all make pretty regular appearances.
If you want to get to know me, here are a few key posts that will get you caught up on the ridiculousness that is my life, my classroom and my wonderful, crazy students...

And finally, the original quote that started it all. This was the day I knew I had to start a blog.
Like many bloggers, especially teacher bloggers, I try very hard to protect my privacy, as well as that of my co-workers and my students. So please, if you know who I really am, please help me remain anonymous to the rest of the world by not outing me in your comments.
If you are a teacher and you have something ridiculous you'd like me to post, email me at teenagersareridiculous@gmail.com.
